Lauren Taylor welcomes Scratch inside her home salon, where she has created a ‘homely and cleanly’ space within her dining room…
Having completed her Level 2 NVQ in Beauty Therapy in 2016, and her Level 3 NVQ in Nails in 2017, Lauren has been a qualified nail tech for seven years.
From May 2023 to May 2024, a bridal shop was her nail tekking base, but due to rent prices and a lack of clients, she decided it was time to move things home. She swapped her dining table in her home extension for a table of a different kind.
It took the tech two weeks to deck out her dining room turned salon, opting for a colour palette boasting all her favourite hues: “I love blush and beiges, as well as light grey. So, I put them together to make a classy salon, with a look which I, as well as my clients, can enjoy!”
Lauren continues: “I aim for my salon to have a welcoming atmosphere; I want it to be bright and airy, but also attractive and professional, so my clients feel comfortable and like they belong here.”
Running her business on her own helps aid this comfort, with clients always knowing who will be carrying out their treatments. “It’s just me running the business: I do admin, social media, cleaning, nail tekking and other beauty treatments,” Lauren shares.
As for the nail services she offers, she says: “I offer L&P acrylic, gel and builder gel treatments. Builder gel is my current most popular service, and I think that is genuinely due to its popularity on social media. I use CJP Nail Systems and can’t promote them enough.” Her services extend to waxing, tinting, lashes and facials.
The tech shares her favourite part of having a salon in the comfort of her own home: “I can grab clients a drink whenever they want, and can open the patio door to let natural light in. My clients love how comfy and homely the space is, and love having my dog, Alfie, in with us.”
As for Lauren’s future goals, she sets her sights on education and teaching courses, and nods to her supportive network: “My partner has always encouraged me to have my own salon. I’m also going to continue to enter competitions. In 2023, I was a finalist in the UK Hair and Beauty Awards for Best New Salon and am a finalist again in 2024 for Best Salon.”
