Attending Isle College in 1992 to study hair and beauty, Joanne Smyth had a love for beauty since she was a child, seeing her qualifying as a natural next step.
With over 30 years of industry experience, Joanne based her beauty business from a salon where she rented a space until this came to an abrupt end, pushing her to make the decision to set up her own home salon.
“I’m super lucky to have a husband that was able to build, insulate, decorate my salon, as well as install the electrics,” she says. “Once I had permission from the council, the whole project took just ten days. I can honestly say I’ve never been happier, I love my little salon.”
Based from her garden in the port town of Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, Joanne kept all of her clientele from her previous salon, allowing for a seamless transition to Jo’s Nails Sutton Bridge location.
Opting for a light and airy decor theme, Joanne wanted to create a calming space for clients to unwind and enjoy their treatments. “I work alone at the salon, so I wanted to offer a one-to-one service to clients in a relaxing atmosphere.”
Offering a variety of nail services including nail extensions, gel polish, builder gel and luxury pedicures alongside her menu of beauty treatments, Joanne’s go-to products include Gelish Dip, and builder gel and gel polish from WowBao.
“My most popular treatments in the salon are nail extensions and luxury pedicures,” she reveals.
“I love the beautiful setting of my salon and garden, and I love hearing the birds singing while I’m working. My favourite aspect of the salon is that I’m my own boss and I have no one to answer to,” Joanne says. “If you’ve been thinking about opening a home salon, all I can say is that you won’t regret it – it’s the best!
“My main goal for the future is to continue seeking out training to add new treatments to my menu, and to keep smashing it!”
