The new year has brought new prospect for Jessica Davis. Opening November last year, JD Beauty Studio saw Jessica Davis convert her garage into a sleek, new home studio.

“Previously, I was primary mobile and teaching from rented rooms or at Sally’s Salon Services,” explains Jessica. “I wanted to have a real base where I can keep all of my products set up, so they are ready for multiple uses at any time. As much as I love the freedom that being a mobile tech gives you, I really don’t miss getting all of my products in and out of bags and having to pack with precision to fit all of my products in!

“Due to working full time for Nail Harmony UK as their operations manager, PA to managing director, Georgie Smedley, and the educator for Norfolk, I decided to convert my garage would make my life that little bit easier.

“I do potentially have space to have another technician join me as I work away from the salon 3 days a week and have two desks set up at all times. It is something I will certainly consider in the future.”

The personalised set-up allows Jessica to truly indulge her clients. “As I only open the studio three full days a week across four days, I have a small but amazing clientele. For each appointment I contact them to see if they have any ideas about what they are looking to have done to their nails, this way I can ensure that I have the right products to create whatever they wish. If they want a specific design that I may not even offer, I use the time to practice so that I never say no to a client and they are always fully satisfied.

“Being a Nail Harmony UK educator, I offer multiple nail services but specify gel polish. I have over 250 Gelish colours in my so my clients are always spoilt for choice! Half of my clientele have nail extensions and for most of them I use Gelish Polygel. The system is so easy to use and my clients absolutely love it. Natural nail health is really important to me and this is something I really try to pass on to my clients; I care about their nails, they should too.

“I offer multiple systems so that I can really tailor treatments for my clients. I offer Gelish, Gelish Dip, PolyGel, Prohesion Acrylic, All That Jazz nail art and Morgan Taylor manicures and pedicures. I believe all of my products are to the highest quality and all work well alongside each other. As a fully trained beauty therapist with over 10 year’s experience, there are many other treatments I am qualified in but nails are really my main demand. I am looking to add lash lift and waxing back on my treatment menu depending on the demand.”

Seeking to create a peaceful space for clients, Jessica decided on a minimal and stylish décor. “When I was looking into decor for my studio I knew I wanted it to be fairly neutral. I opted for clean white walls, contrasting black furniture, forest green accents and just a hint of gold.

“I wanted to create a modern yet serene environment for my clients so that they looked forward to coming to have their nails done. One of my favourite pieces of decor is my custom-made print saying ‘Break Hearts, Not Nails’ made by an www.houseofneon.online. It has a central place as you walk through the double glass doors. I wanted to create a space that practical for purpose, clean for hygiene and safety reason but also somewhere that was totally Instagram-mable!

“The space is really light and the greenery plants really help for clients to take a step back from day to day life and really relax and clear their minds. I also think it’s important to cover more of the senses when thinking about your client’s experience.  I have two reed diffusers that smell amazing, something that clients comment on every time they walk in! Clients can also choose from a refreshment menu of a wide range of beverages. I believe touches like this make my home salon more of a high-end experience.”
