Gloss Studio 1200

Located in Kelham Island, Sheffield, GLOSS Studio was created by Billie Deakin, who was seeking a creative career. “I worked for six years as a civil servant at the Home Office when I finished studying at university, but I was desperate to do something more creative,” explains owner, Billie Deakin. “I completed an evening nail course over three months, saved hard and slowly built up my kit.

After growing her client base and salon experience locally, Billie took the plunge and opened her studio at the beginning of the year. “It was easily the scariest thing I’ve ever done, but I don’t regret it for a second,” she smiles.

Specilising in hand painted nail art, Billie takes pride in creating unique looks for her clients. “When I started the business I saw a gap in the market for the kind of nail art service I wanted for myself,” she explains. “I hope my studio has become a space for people to bring their creative ideas to.

“After a couple of months, one of my ex-work colleagues saw what I was doing and wanted to get involved. Rosie completed her training and now rents a chair from me a couple of days a week.

“I also have three other nail technicians currently in training who will be renting a space from me in the coming months. I saw the opportunity to turn the studio into a space for fully independent, self-employed nail techs to be artistic, feel supported and flourish in a creative environment.”
