SALON IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Finny-Foo-Fars Beauty Box, Loughborough

Striking out as a mobile technician, as Finlay Dawkins’ client base and list of services grew, she soon grew out of her portable kit. “As my range of treatments started to grow so did my kit!” Finlay laughs. “It was getting a little tricky to carry around.”
Seeking a solution, Finlay started to carry out treatments in her home. “I loved being able to set up the room I worked in exactly how I wanted it,” Finlay continues. “I enjoyed turning the space into a spa-like environment for my clients to feel relaxed, rather than just sitting my dining room! I’m very much into decor and loved that I could create this beautiful little area that – for that an hour or two –was mine.”
With this in mind Finlay looked at new options for her set-up. “I still live at home with my parents,” Finlay says. “In our garden my dad had a shed built that he uses to work from home. This made me think that perhaps I could use that as my salon, but the couch bed didn’t fit! It was all a little cramped and I wanted to have a spacious area for my clients.
“We finally decided to have a purpose-built log cabin fitted in the space where the shed was. Over the course of a week or two, the cabin took form and Finny-Foo-Fars Beauty Box was created.”
To create a serene feel, Finlay selected a calming interior. “I spent a few months of searching for the perfect decor and feel for the room. I decided on a shabby chic look but with a fresh modern feel,” Finlay reveals.
“I chose to white wash the walls inside to give the cabin a spacious feel. I decide to have my nails desk and side table custom created to match the theme. I chose this theme because as much as a modern look is popular, I wanted to create a nice and cosy feel in my salon. Rather than sharp edges and cold colours, we have beautiful carved pieces of furniture and little pops of pink, grey and green.”
Offering a variety of beauty treatments, Finlay’s salon boasts a complete nail menu including PolyGel services and Gelish manicures and pedicures. “I take lots of care when choosing my products and suppliers,” Finlay explains. “I take into account the ingredients and the company, too.
“I feel my salon creates a welcoming feel and I feel it matches my personality! It’s lovely to have a space that is yours and yours only. Every single client that has come to my salon has immediately mentioned how beautiful and relaxing it is.”
