When their family grew, Ella and Milly Shanks’ home salon relocated from a bedroom in the family home to a new garage conversion. “We’ve had our home salon for 3 and a half years,” the duo explain. “In the past, it’s been in our spare bedroom, which is now our daughter’s nursery. It was located in our living room in desperate times when our daughter needed a bedroom and now it’s in our brand new garage conversion.”
Determined to create a stunning setup to welcome clients into, the pair started work to transform the previously unused space. “We think one of the things that makes our salon unique is how much it has changed from what it was,” Ella and Milly continue. “It was water-logged and spider-infested, with a lot of holes in the roof too!
“It has been such a big transformation. We love looking back at old photos and seeing how far it has come.”
Now, the salon sees a pretty yet professional décor. “We’ve created a bright, airy feel in our salon with light wood effect floors and white walls. We’ve painted the back wall a dusky rose, terracotta colour to add depth to the room. We’ve also added a few plants for greenery!
“Our favourite part of our set up is the sink. Not only do we think it’s stunning but it also helps us create some beautiful photos for promotion. Of course, the main reason is it allows our clients to wash their hands with hot water and soap before and after their appointments.
“We want our clients to feel uplifted when they come to us and we feel that creating a bright and airy space does just that! Creating a nice environment to work in helps motivate you and we really look forward to going into the salon.”
