Salon in the Spotlight: Afterglow Beauty Salon, Strood

Chloe Radzik began her journey into the beauty industry in 2008, and Ami Ball in 2012. The duo have had a close friendship since 2016, deciding when lockdown lifted to team up and open a salon together.

The doors to Afterglow Beauty Salon officially opened in April 2022. “We came across a private complex with unit space, and set about transforming the units into a clean and cosy space to welcome our clients along to. We worked long and hard with the help of family and friends to flip the empty units into a fully functioning salon, and are extremely proud of where we managed to get to.”

“As a new business, we’re still growing. We started with three members of staff and have now worked up to five, with the potential for two more to join our team,” the pair enthuse. “Co-owner Chloe is a fully qualified beauty therapist who specialises in lash treatments and nails. Co-owner Ami is a fully qualified beauty therapist, specialising in gel nails, pedicure and body waxing.

“Charlene is a fully qualified nail technician, specialising in nail extensions and all nail art. She’s been in the nail industry since 2012. Jess is a newly qualified massage therapist, specialising in Swedish full body massage. Chantelle is a holistic therapist who specialises in reiki, sakhem healing, sound bathing and clairvoyant readings. This has been apart of her life since she was young and runs within her family, and she’s been doing it professionally since 2002.”

“We offer a variety of treatments at the salon including gel nails, acrylic nails, gel extensions, pedicures, massages, lash treatments, brow treatments, body waxing and holistic therapies. Each individual person has their own specialties which is what makes us so special.

“We use a range of products, depending on the service. For nails, we use NSI for acrylics and The GelBottle for gels – we have over 200 gel colours to choose from. We’re also building up our collection of Navy Professional Tools,” they enthuse. “We also use HD Brows, Lash Bomb, and Jade Jones Lash Extensions.”

“We’ve opted for all things neutral with hints of gold, even down to the uniform and our crocs,” Chloe and Ami laugh. “We feel that having a neutral colour palette gives off a relaxing vibe with a calming and inviting atmosphere which our clients enjoy.

“We chose nail desks with gold legs and a big throne chair for our pedicures, with a large gold pedicure bowl. We have a white and gold flower tree print on the back wall of the salon as a stand out piece, and we have plans to add more decorations with the colour theme as time goes on. We can’t wait dress the shop up for Christmas in theme with our colour palette!”
