Scratch chats to Jane McCann of Reality Beauty x Jane about her goals to expand into education, and how she created this Super Mario pixel nail design…
I trained in beauty therapy in 2014, but from early on in my course, I knew I wanted to specialise in nails. I have further developed my skills during lockdown with so many amazing nail artists on Instagram live, which has helped me progress so much!
I love abstract art and it’s normally my go-to nail style, but I also love creating really detailed nail art. I love doing anything that will give me a challenge! My favourite products to use are The Gel Bottle’s Builder in a Bottle and my Brillbird brushes, especially the O brushes in Long and Short.
I watched a Instagram live with Zoë Adams who showed how to create a pixel heart. It really reminded me of Super Mario Bros, so I created Mario using Brillbird brushes for the outline detail. I used The Gel Bottle shade in Cosmos as a base colour then the shades Chilli, Bolt, Cookie, Retro, Chocolate and Daisy for the detail and to bring the nail art to life.
I love doing nails! I don’t look at it as a job, more like a hobby. I have gained so many great friendships with my clients which makes working so easy. I have also met so many great nail artists online and they are all so supportive and encouraging, it’s a really lovely industry to work in.
When I opened my own business almost three years ago, it was always something I knew I would eventually do. I achieved it 10 months after going self employed. It happened much quicker than I expected, but I think if you really want something you’ll achieve it once you put your mind to it.
I am planning to expand my business to branch into education. It’s something I am aiming to work toward within the next few years.
