Amelia Pullano of Buffed Nails & Beauty chats to Scratch about creating this stunning starburst galaxy design and her life and career as a nail tech.

Please tell us about your background in nails…

I have been in the nail industry for 16 years, starting in a salon straight from school while also attending college – my love for nails and nail art has just grown and grown. I gained my experience within a couple of salons as well as working abroad, before opening up my own business which has given me the pleasure of making my clients feel gorgeous for eight lovely years now.

What is your signature nail style and favourite products to use?

I use a range of different products as I love having so much to offer to my clients, so I’m always on the hunt for anything new, eye catching and sparkly. I adore the Glitterbels coloured acrylics, I’m always stocked up with glitters and fancies from

Glitterarty and I’ve fallen head over heels for the fabulous “Nails By” gel polish. I would probably say my signature nail style would have to be a long tapered square nail with a marble design, although I enjoy any little creation that I can come up with for my clients.

How did you create these nails?

I did these nails with a marbling technique using the “Nails By” gel polish and Blooming gel. The technique is so quick and easy yet so effective and I love how it flows so effortlessly. The high pigments really make them pop. The Glitterarty stars give them a galactic look which I am a massive fan of.

What do you love about working in the nail industry?

More so than ever this year, I have loved being part of the nail industry as it’s just so supportive! This has been a very tough year for us all, but it has been so encouraging and refreshing to find that so many of us have really come together and boosted each other through social platforms and sharing each other’s work. I will forever love how endlessly creative you can be with nails; every set is like a little piece of art and even after all this time I still get so excited when I do a set that I’m really proud of.

What is the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight of my career so far is definitely opening my own salon, where I’m working alongside some beautiful, talented girls and building such amazing relationships with my clients. I feel extremely lucky to be in a job that I genuinely wake up looking forward to going to each day.

What are your hopes for your future in nails?

I hope that in the future I can continue to build a brand for my salon as well as build more of a presence online. I’m always looking to perfect my skills and would love to possibly go into passing these on to students of my own. I’ll never stop learning from other nail techs around me and I hope that my work can inspire others to join the industry who love it as much as I do.
