Scratch chats with Jessica Prout, of Jessica Prout Nails, about her creative flair and love for all things nail art!
In 2011, I stopped hairdressing, as it became something that no longer excited me. I had already trained in nails previously so continued my training in nearly all the Georgie Smedley Group courses, including Gelish and ProHesion, as well as with a few other brands like IBX.
Throughout lockdown, I’ve had the chance to be creative and try out lots of different types of designs that I hadn’t had time for previously. I personally love fine line work, however many of my clients love a marble design on their nails because they’re a nice, easy style to wear day to day. I love Gelish Art Form Gels for detail work and Magpie Beauty Dusts. I have been using the Red Iguana practise hand for pictures of my work to show my creative side that my clients might not otherwise see or choose!
To create this smoky marble design, I added a thin layer of Gelish in the shade Heaven Sent leaving it uncured on top of light pink extensions. With a small round brush, I added a small amount of Gelish in the shade Merci Bouquet diagonally and let it disperse before then curing. With a thin layer of Gelish Structure Gel left uncured, I repeated the previous step but with Gelish in the shade Po-riwinkle in the opposite direction, letting it disperse and then curing. Finally, applying another a thin layer of Gelish Heaven Sent and leaving it uncured, use a thin detail brush to add a few lines branching in Gelish in Arctic Freeze, letting it slightly disperse and then curing. For extra sparkle I dotted patches of Magpie Beauty’s Opal and finished with Gelish Top It Off to complete the look.
At school, art was my favourite subject. I have continued my love for art working in the nail industry. I now get to treat each client’s nails as a mini canvas. I have also made some incredible friends in the nail industry – it’s so nice to have support from like-minded people, who have similar interests and passions, who are always encouraging me to be the best possible nail technician I can be!
My family built me a log cabin in my garden so I can work safely from home and spend more time doing what I love and less time travelling. I’m in complete control of my own future. My business has never been busier and I’m immensely proud of what I have achieved and where I am now!
After nine years in the nail industry, I would love to become a brand ambassador, which would be perfect for me as I am passionate about passing on my knowledge and experience of nails to others!
