Scratch chats to Jaz Tuck of Jazzy Nails about her career progression and how she created this retro-inspired daisy nail design…

Growing up, I knew I wanted to work within the beauty industry. I used to read Scratch Magazine when I was young while my mum was at the salon having her nails done. I am now a nail technician with 10 years’ experience and adore anything nail related!

My passion for nails started when I worked for Nails Inc and was exposed to many varieties of glitters, confetti, colours and designs. It was around 2018 when my passion for nail art grew, and that took my career to the next level. Practice makes perfect, and learning new designs and techniques has definitely widened my range of services.

My inspiration

Animal print inspires a lot of my nail art designs. I feel like this is my signature style and it shows off my personality! Although it’s vibrant and modern, it’s also a timeless classic.

My kit

Something I can’t live without is a great set of quality nail art brushes, as this is key to my nail game. I would say my must-haves but also favourite products are The Gel Bottle‘s Builder In A Bottle, with Teddy being my ultimate favourite shade! I also have to mention The Gel Bottle‘s Extreme Shine Top Coat, which is an essential for my kit.

How-to

These nails were created using products from The Gel Bottle. I’ve been loving retro vibes at the moment, so I needed to try a set out for myself! My base was created with Builder In A Bottle in the shade Teddy, topped with a layer of the shade Au Naturale. I painted coloured tips using the shade Bonfire, followed by a thin layer of Butternut, June and Pumpkin to create the swirls. Next came the daisies.

Using a dotting tool, I applied a dot of Butternut to create the bud. This was followed by adding dots of the shade Daisy in a circle around the bud. While the polish was still wet, using a fine nail art brush, I dragged the shade Daisy out to create a petal shape and cured the design. I then finished off the set with my favourite top coat, the Extreme Shine Top Coat.

My loves & highlights

Working in the nail industry is rewarding on so many levels. Creating amazing relationships with clients, experimenting with designs and seeing people take inspiration from my work is amazing. I enjoy growing my business – which never stops, as there is always something new out there to learn and get your nails stuck into! I also need to mention the amazing Instagram community of nail techs, who are always sharing knowledge, tips and tricks as well as being a great support system.

The highlight of my career was taking the plunge and opening my own business, Jazzy Nails. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. It has allowed me to gain a new love for nails, as I have been able to use brands l adore and allow myself blossom in the direction I have always wanted. Although, being contacted by Scratch to be featured is definitely a pinch-me moment!

My hopes for the future are to one day become an ambassador for the brands I am passionate about and to keep that creative freedom. I would like to have my own cabin or out building and fill it with joy, happiness, and lots of nails of course! I want it to be a place where you want to be, at any given chance. Who knows what the future holds, but I’m ready for it.
