Charlotte Fletcher, of Head 2 Toe Hair & Beauty, chats to Scratch about her journey into the nail industry as well as how to create this super chic pink ink & gold fleck nail look…

“I initially trained with Izabelle Hammon in 2017, however it wasn’t until 2019 that I really grew a huge passion for nails and nail art. I’ve never been academic but always had a creative flare. In 2019 I started using The Gel Bottle Inc products, which my clients love.

“During lockdown I have been putting my salon together and helping my dad with fencing! He’s a farmer so has been making the most of free labour putting up fences. I have, however, also been getting super creative in this time a I took on an Instagram challenge of producing over 50 nail art designs.

“My go-to products are The Gel Bottle Inc BIAB in Teddy and Clear, as well as blooming gel. I use a lot of acrylic paints, inks and foils, too. I’m also a huge lover of Navy Professional Tools! I don’t have a signature nail style, however I’m all about abstract and mismatched nails. I don’t always strive to have perfectly matching nails, as I like my designs not to look so strategically placed.

“For this pink and gold nail look, I used Navy Professional Tools for the prep (Ethel, Martha and Doris) for the prep and The Gel Bottle Inc BIAB base. I refined the finish and buffed smooth, dusted the nail clean and gently dabbed Magpie Beauty inks in purple and red to build it up, waiting between dots to dry so they didn’t blend. I then topped with The Gel Bottle Inc BIAB in Clear, cured and applied gold foil over the top. I then finished with The Gel Bottle Inc Extreme Shine Top Coat and a slick of cuticle oil. NAF! Stuff Cuticle Oil in Cherry is my go-to!

“The nail industry is like no other. I have never had so much support than I have from people in this industry; techs don’t see each other as competition but as colleagues. I work alone and to have the support that I have from some incredible women just melts my heart.

“I can honestly say that right now feels like the highlight of my career so far. I never dreamed of having my own salon and writing this while stood in it is just like a feeling I have never had; feeling like I could make it and being self-employed, building my business to what it is.

“In the future I hope to do more training, as I’d love to expand into other brands and diverse myself. I also hope to employ someone who I can help train up and pass on some knowledge. The thought of teaching within the industry hugely appeals to me.”
