Lily Snape, of Beauty Bungalow, shares her passion for one-to-one teaching with Scratch, as well as elaborating on her love for free-hand nail art…
I have been in the industry for a total of seven years. I started at college where I qualified in Level 2 & 3 Nail Technology. I instantly knew I wanted to pursue nails as a full-time career, with my love and creative flare for nail art. After completing an additional make-up course, I then went to work full time in a salon for three years. I then built up my skills and experience, before I finally decided to take the plunge and start my own little business working from home as Beauty Bungalow!
My signature style is anything related to creative, free-hand nail art. I always complete these looks using my favourite brands, such as Navy Pro Tools for my prep, NSI for any acrylic, The Gel Bottle Inc for the Builder In A Bottle and Gel Polish colours, and then Brillbird’s Brush & Go for any freehand nail art.
I created the mix and match nails using Navy Pro Tools to prep, using Doris, Ethel, Martha and Helen. I applied two coats of The Gel Bottle Inc Builder In A Bottle in the shade Teddy as my base – I always find this is a perfect natural base for any nail art design. I then painted my designs on free hand, using Brillbird’s Brush & Go paint, along with Lemonade and Barbie from The Gel Bottle Inc, finishing off with a coat of Extreme Shine Top Coat.
The best thing about working in the nail industry is the people you meet along the way! So many of my clients are good friends to me now and have supported me so much through this journey. I also receive a great amount of support from other local nail techs, and even people I don’t know via social media, which is lovely as we all share inspiration over Instagram. I also love how there are always new designs and trends now that nail art is so in fashion. My clients are always bringing me new challenges!
The highlight of my career would definitely be setting up on my own at the Beauty Bungalow and even being able to teach nail art one to one lessons, and now this feature! I feel I have achieved a lot in just ten months of working for myself and I’m so excited for what the future has in store for me.
I hope that in the future, I can potentially become a Brand Ambassador for some of my favourite nail brands such as Navy Professional, The Gel Bottle Inc or NSI! I would also love to expand my one to one nail art lessons and concentrate more on teaching.
