Scratch chats to Taylor Bell of Islas Beauty about becoming a beauty business owner and the importance of keeping up with industry trends…
I love to create lots of random designs. I’ve always loved to create a different design for every one of my clients – not everybody has the same taste in nails, which is what I love about this kind of work!
If I had to choose two nail designs as my favourites, it would be flames or anything swirly.
I like to keep myself as busy as possible with my clients. The busier, the better for me. I love to be rushed off my feet and most of the time, I book clients back to back all day, from about 9am till about 7pm in the evening.
“As a nail technician, I never have time to sit around bored and I wouldn’t change it for the world!”
Everyone in this industry you meet is so down to earth and lovely. Even if you haven’t met most them in real life, and you only know them from social media, we’re all like one big family!
I love the challenging side to the nail industry. No matter how clued up you are in nails, every day brings a new challenge. I love being able to be so creative and letting my thoughts run free onto clients nails
Finally becoming a business owner and having so much support from all of my lovely clients, family and friends, who are all now what I like to call my “Islas Angels”, is amazing.
Building a business has always been a dream of mine, and to finally be able to say it’s come true at the age of 23 is incredible! I couldn’t be happier.
I’ve always loved the thought of opening a small café or cocktail bar with both my parents, so if I wasn’t a nail tech, I think that’s what I’d be doing. From a young age, I’ve always thought about how cool it must be to own a bar or a café with the ones you love!
It’s really important to keep up to date with the trends, as they are changing all the time. If you’re not keeping up with new trends, new techniques and new products then you’re going to fall behind and potentially miss out giving your clients their best possible treatments.
All I would say to someone starting out in the industry is, if you have a dream to become something, be brave enough to go and get it. If you can dream, it you can do it!
