Scratch chats to Ravi Uppal of Nails by Ravi about nail trends and the importance of not comparing yourself to other techs…
The Gel Bottle‘s Builder in a Bottle has to be my ultimate favourite product to use – it’s life changing! Before using it, I thought it was just a craze, but the transformations speak for themselves. I can’t ever imagine not using it, and who doesn’t love a Builder in a Bottle journey?!
My signature nail style has to be something simple. I love to just have a nude coloured Builder in a Bottle on my nails – my go to shade is BIAB 19 – I think it looks so natural and effortless. When it comes to nail art, I prefer one or two nails of detailed artwork or, if on every nail, then just something simple. I have been challenging myself lot recently when it comes to designs, but I think minimal nails will always have my heart!
I love how creative the nail industry is. Trends are ever-changing and at the minute, nail art has become all the rage. I rarely have a client who asks for a plain colour! I see the work of some nail artists and it is absolutely incredible, the detail, the shading – it is literally like artwork but on tiny little canvases.
The best advice I’ve ever received is don’t compare yourself to other nail artists! When I first qualified, I would constantly compare myself to people who had been in the industry for years, forgetting that I had only been doing it for a few weeks. As soon as I stopped comparing myself to others, I started to have confidence in my own work. After all, everyone has to start somewhere!
“Never compare yourself to others, enjoy the process and practice, practice, practice.”
I currently work full-time in marketing and do nails in the evenings and on weekends. My nail tech journey started out as a classic lockdown story – I was in desperate need of a creative outlet! It’s something I have really grown to love, and has become my little escape from the world! I only had my first paying client in May so I feel like I am still finding my feet. I’m currently working on building up my client base and I am so grateful for everyone that comes to me as I am learning and developing my skills even more!
If we are dreaming big, my ultimate goal would be to become a The Gel Bottle brand ambassador – that’s when I’ll know I’ve made it!
