Scratch chats to Kirsty Williams about her tips for aspiring techs and her passion for nail art…
What is it about nails that has you hooked?
I only realised how much I loved nails when I found myself away from my salon, La Belle Dame, during the first lockdown.
I was constantly watching and learning from other artists via videos, frequently buying new products and excited to create something new on my own nails.
I am such a creative person and being able to create art everyday makes me really happy inside.
What is your all-time favourite nail product?
It’s honestly so hard to think of one product, I have several in mind!
If I had to choose, my all time favourite product will have to be the XL Square Tips from NailPerfectionxo. Being able to create super long C-Curved nails with these super strong tips has been a dream come true!
What designs do you love to create?
I love creating bright, bold colour blocked designs with some glitter. I nearly always try to encourage my clients to have 3D flowers on their nails. I am obsessed with 3D nail art.
If you had to pick one, what nail colour would characterise your personality?
I struggled to answer this question as my personality can be described by so many different colours. One to match each mood. But a good all rounder would probably be a dark metallic cat eye. Dark and mysterious!
What are your next career steps?
I would love to become a nail educator. When I was a child, I used to set up a classroom with my teddies and teach them art! Now it all makes sense.
I love helping other artists and encouraging them that they can do this – seeing the results is amazing.
If you weren’t doing nails, what would you be doing?
I would definitely be in a role that meant I was creating something.
I attended college and did a fashion course a few years before starting nails. I loved drawing outfits on fashion templates but I wasn’t very good at sewing the clothes!
What tips do you have for aspiring nail techs?
Don’t quit so soon! Nobody begins their nail career creating super crisp, smooth, long-lasting nails. It is a skill that requires patience and passion. Trust the process and invest in good quality products. I believe they make all the difference to how a set of nails will work out. I use a lot of NailPerfectionxo products. They are great quality and very fairly priced.
