As your most prized tools, your hands come under a lot of stress. “As with many physical jobs, busy nail technicians can experience ailments over time, including  Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD) and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,” explains CND™ education ambassador, Lysa Glover.

“CTD is the result of repeated ‘trauma’ to the joints such as the wrists, shoulders or fingers and involves inflammation of the tendons which can be painful. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by repeated injury in the wrist. When the area is injured and the soft tissue swells, nerves are ‘pinched’ together causing pain.

“Ultimately, if you’re growing concerned about an ache or pain, always visit a professional. Consultations with physiotherapist, chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists or even your GP should be on your radar and a treatment could make all the difference.”

Right Now!

Stretch out the area with this simple exercise. Keeping your elbow straight, pull your wrist backward with your other hand. With this movement, you should feel a mild to moderate stretch. Try to hold for ten seconds. Repeat the whole stretch with your other wrist for three sets.
