Juanita Huber-Millet, founder and creative director of Townhouse, never knew that she would go into nails as a child. “My background is a little eclectic – I grew up wanting to do nothing other than dance and I spent my teenage years in ballet school, training every minute I could to follow my dreams. Unfortunately, injury brought that all to an end and beauty felt a natural next step,” she says.
“I loved my training in London but ended up going more towards the management side, overseeing a busy salon in the years that followed. While I don’t do treatments today, I do get fully involved with all design elements including our fabulous nail art collections!”
It has always been a goal of the Townhouse team to be recognised by Scratch at the Scratch Stars Awards. “These awards are such a prestigious accolade in the nail industry and to even be a finalist for Nail Salon of the Year was a dream come true – we are beyond thrilled to have won the award this year!” Juanita enthuses. “I felt so proud of our entire team for making this accomplishment possible.”
The delighted entrepreneur wanted to share the thrilling news with the rest of the Townhouse family then and there. “We first sent a staff newsletter to celebrate the award and congratulate our staff for their amazing hard work, because without them this wouldn’t have been possible. We also took photos of the trophy and promoted our win on social media, and sent a customer newsletter to showcase our award,” Juanita smiles.
The trophy sits in pride of place at the front of the brand’s Fitzrovia salon. “It is one of the first things that our staff and clients see when they walk in the door, and we couldn’t be more proud to have it on display,” comments Juanita.
Townhouse clients are incredibly important to the brand, and during lockdown the salon team worked hard to ensure it supported its nail community. “This included regular social media and e-mail newsletter updates on salon re-openings and hours, waiting lists, new safety measures and all the latest developments. We even created our own at-home gel removal kits and posted these for free across the UK to any of our customers who got stuck in lockdown with gel on their nails. With hundreds of kits posted out, we didn’t want anyone to get left behind!” Juanita was delighted by the heartfelt feedback the team received and was pleased to support her customers during such a difficult time.
So what’s next for Townhouse?
“We have big plans for the future, including more site openings during 2021 and beyond. We’re extremely excited to bring the Townhouse brand to new audiences and look forward to sharing more soon – stay tuned!”
