Shouting about your skills and offerings can make a big difference to your appointment books and knowing how to retail aftercare products to clients can help increase some extra revenue, as well as encourage returning and loyal clients.
We asked Rachel Gribble, Salon System educator, how to effectively market gel polish services to clients and her top tips for retailing aftercare products post-service.
Rachel says, “Being a successful nail technicians also requires the ability to sell. You’re not only responsible for selling your nail services, but also the products needed to help your clients maintain those services. When marketing and retailing items, there are several factors that need to be considered:
- It’s crucial that you know your products inside out – understanding the features and benefits of all the services you provide, as well as the products that your clients are going to need to enhance those services.
- Be aware of the needs and wants of each clients. During the treatment consultation, find out about their treatment expectations and the condition of their nails in order to provide them with the right service and recommend the correct aftercare products.
- Ensuring that you display your products, as well as discussing them with your client during their treatment is essential to driving retail. You could make up gift baskets or goody bags featuring popular nail products and little gifts – these will look lovely on your shelves and will catch the attention of your clients.
- Be as knowledgeable as you can about all of your nail services and products so that you can answer and questions or concerns that your clients may have.
- Being passionate is an underestimated selling tool in our arsenal. It’s infectious and genuine and is what makes your clients want to purchase products and try more of your services. Sales should come naturally to a good nail technician who is passionate about what they do and believes in the products that they stock.
- Understand your clients budget. There is no point bombarding your client with a full list of products or services if they have a small budget.”
