Autumn/winter serves up a whole host of new colour and design opportunities for clients. So, what are the nail trends you need to know about this season? We’ve rounded up the top three nail trends from the autumn/winter 2020 catwalks to inspire salon designs…
1. Colour rich
Bold blues, oranges, reds, pinks and greens are forecast this season, providing a break from classic muted winter tones. Consider highly pigmented, rich hues over shorter nails or make a statement with long enhancements.
What the experts say…
“Having missed the summer holidays, a pop of neon colour will keep the summer vibe going. Adding a touch of neon green green or neon pink to a neutral polish will provide a statement manicure and keep the summer, carefree feeling lasting a little longer,” – Abi Garvey, Pure Nails ambassador.
“After what’s been a number of months reconfiguring life and the consequent reopening of salons, I imagine people will really let loose with mega extensions and bold nail art,” – Daisy Kalnina, founder & CEO of The Gel Bottle Inc & Peacći.
“This autumn/winter, we will see lots of rich hues; think vibrant oranges and blues with deep blues and reds to really pop against each other. High gloss nails will be the finish for nails this season,” – Karen Louise, Salon System nail expert.
2. The nu nude
Inclusive nudes to suit evert skin tone will be a staple this autumn/winter. Stock up on a range of tones to complement and serve up with multiple finishes – from sheer to matte.
What the experts say…
“In terms of nudes, we know that one shade doesn’t fit all, so there’ll be a continued focus in celebrating our diversity and individuality through varying shades of nude tones based on each of our unique skin tones,” – Daisy Kalnina.
3. Of the night
Dark and moody tones of blood red, gunmetal greys and classic black set the scene, providing edge to nail looks. Enhance and soften with metallic touches, overlay short natural nails for an unapologetic look or immerse in gothic styles with dramatic enhancements.
What the experts say…
“Shapes will stay pretty varied ranging from short rounded to long and pointed. Metallics, barely-there nudes, extra dark maroon and burgundy as well as black will be shades you’ll want to offer for AW20,” – Julie-Anne Larivière, Salon System nail expert & owner of Sketched by J-A Nails.
“This season, focus on diversifying with colours that will promote energy. Reds and shades of copper will perfectly fit into autumn nail looks while saturated turquoise, intense navy blue or steel tones will complete a winter look. Powdery shades of toned rose will be suitable for both seasons of the year,” – Paulina Walaszczuk, Indigo Nails educator.
“Perfectly manicured red and dark red shades are ideal to match a stunning autumn/winter make-up look, taking aspects such as lipstick shades into consideration. Also, super dark purple/grey/nearly black and black shades are perfect on a long almond or stiletto base for a fierce, gothic look,” – Kirsti Turrell, Sweet Squared education ambassador.
