Cash in on taking card payments for your services with these tip from Helen Prowse, head of communications at Square UK…

“Take some time to think about when you’ll take card payments – in person, in a shop, on the move, over the phone, or on the web – and look for a solution that provides you with the flexibility you need. Also consider whether you want to enter into a long term contract and monthly fees, or invest in something more flexible with a pay-as-you-go approach.

“Some payment services integrate with existing accountancy software, website or booking systems, so if that’s a need for you, you should also research if there’s a solution that fits the bill. You could also find out what else comes with the different options – for example at Square we also provide a free Point of Sale for businesses which helps track sales and provides data which you don’t get from a simple terminal device.

“There’s a wealth of information available on the internet when it comes to card payment devices, so do your research.”

“More broadly we’d always recommend speaking to other small business owners like you to see what they are using and the benefits and and pitfalls, and your accountant can also be a great source of information if you have one as they are close to your finances and may support other businesses in your space.
