Hey Scratch readers!

This week the theme for the Dancing On Ice performances was ‘dance’. Each couple had a different genre of dance to perform and I created the nails to match, alongside my amazing assistant, Hannah, of @bananasbeauty_.

Here is an in-depth look at two of my favourite looks created this week…

Vanessa Bauer (professional skater):
This week, Vanessa performed the jive! Her costume was pink, white and black. There were so many nail options to complement this costume but I wanted it to be as fun as their performance, so chose an ombré design with a lot of sparkle. To do this, I used The Gel Bottle Inc in Blue Steel and Miami, with the World of Glitter in Aspen. To create the ombré effect, I painted half of the nail blue and half pink, not quite touch in the middle. Using The Gel Bottle Inc Detail Brush, I painted around the cuticle and the sides of the nail to ensure there were no unpainted sections. Using The Gel Bottle Inc Ombré Brush, I brushed down the middle of the nail, moving very slightly to the right and then a little to the left, blending as I went. Eventually you will achieve a beautifully blended ombré very quickly – then, apply the glitter as normal.

Alex Murphy (professional skater):
It was disco week for Alex and her celebrity partner, Joe Swash. Alex was covered in sparkles in her gorgeous jumpsuit and I was directed to go gold – they wanted gold, so I gave them gold! I started with my must-have glitter shade from The Gel Bottle Inc, Vegas, as a base and to give it a real boost I applied the Lecenté Gold Foil on top with the help of Stick It! from the Nail Stamping Queen. This is so amazing and makes my foils stick like no other base. It’s incredible for intricate designs or for all over the nail – I love it.

Here is a breakdown of all of the other nail looks created this week:

  • Carlotta Edwards: Clear Rubber Base, GelPot, gel polish shade in Vegas detailed with Jungle, Daisy and Diva, and Extreme Shine Top Coat
  • Jessica Hatfield: Clear Rubber Base, GelPot, gel polish shade in Fizz, Extreme Shine Top Coat
  • Maura Higgins: Clear Rubber Base, GelPot, gel polish shade in Roulette, Extreme Shine Top Coat
  • Libby Clegg: Clear Rubber Base, GelPot, gel polish shade in Peach, Extreme Shine Top Coat
  • Jayne Torvill: Clear Rubber Base, gel polish shade in #Queen, Extreme Shine Top Coat

And that’s a wrap for this week! Thank you for all of the support and comments so far, it has been overwhelming. Come back next week for more updates and follow me over at @nails_by_mads on Instagram if you haven’t already!
