Janan Saher, director of Aviva Day Spa in Luton, talks about the difficulties her business is facing due to COVID-19 and how she and her team are tackling hygiene issues…
I’ve been reading so many negative and scary posts that I thought I would try and turn that around to give Scratch readers some hope and positivity during this difficult and worrying time.
It’s been about six weeks since we first heard about the coronavirus. So how are we dealing with this positively and effectively? What can we do to maintain a safe and protected working environment? How can we reassure clients that we are doing our best to prevent cross-contamination?
At the moment, Aviva Day Spa is taking it one day at a time. Many of our clients are relieved that we are still open and providing services still. We have had clients say that their beauty or holistic treatment is the only thing they currently look forward to having now that they are avoiding large social gatherings.
We have no more than three or four clients in at any time. We have hand washing and sanitising products in the salon as we always have. In fact, not a lot has changed as far as hygiene and sanitation goes. Like all salons, we have a duty of care to prevent cross-contamination. We have increased our cleaning regime and after every client we clean and sanitise more thoroughly. We also wear masks to give clients reassurance and to protect ourselves.
Clients have commented that this makes them feel much more comfortable in the salon, which is obviously what we want. If any staff members show any signs of a cold or a high temperature, we have asked them to self-isolate for seven days. We have also made a video for our social media platforms to show our frequent cleaning schedule and to kindly ask clients who may be showing any flu symptoms to refrain from visiting the salon.
We are taking no risks. Protecting our clients and therapists is paramount to us. We know that we haven’t reached the peak of this virus yet and we are remaining positive. I hope our reassurances and professionalism during this worrying time helps to pull us through. We want everyone to know we have done our very best to make Aviva Day Spa a safe haven for you to escape and relax in. That, and remaining calm and positive is really the best we can do for now.
