Open, or closed? Suzanne Clayton, of Nail Tech Awareness Group & owner of Souz Nails & Beauty, shares her thoughts on making the best decision for your business – and being kind to others…

We are all worrying one way or another and I’m sure many have had sleepless nights.

It’s important to remember not everything is closing – I think we all need to remember that. The care homes and hospital will obviously stay open; the petrol stations and supermarkets are open. The shopping centres are open.

People still need things. One of those things may be to get out the house and have a treatment for their own sanity and ours.

Some of nail & beauty business have to stay open as long as possible or face never reopening again.

I know a few I’ve spoken to are looking at bankruptcy as they cannot survive. Each and every one of us has different financial responsibilities.

The decision is also depends on our health, family health and who we may take the virus to.

For those who at risk – yes, close. For those who can afford to –yes, close. But, I beg, do not look down on those who need to stay open and those who can stay open. We haven’t been told we have to close as yet. We have our own integrity at this stage to make a decision so make your own while you can. No one is going to pay our bills or pick up the pieces when we can’t. We haven’t been given a timeline of closure so that we can prepare and budget for it.

I know it’s a difficult and unprecedented situation.

While some businesses are staying open, I’m not closing. In fact, I’m getting extra bookings from existing clients. That is my right to choose at this time.

We will get through this.
