Hear from Claire Denton on her role as a beauty therapist, nail technician, educator and City and Guilds Assessor…
Tell us about your career so far…
I began my working career already in the beauty industry when I joined my mother in 1993. She had been a therapist and salon owner from the 60s!
I was introduced to Ivor and Caroline Sears from Supernail, and went on to become an educators for Backscraters with the fibreglass and silk systems. I gained a great deal of knowledge and encouragement from them.
It was during this time I met Jackie Jefford, one of the leading nail technicians, educators and assessors, who was passionate about us all working towards a better education. I joined Jackie and colleagues to form The Association of Nail Technician, with an emphasis on making a difference to malpractice and bad publicity. We all took exams for this purpose – City and Guilds Beauty Therapy Level 3 in nail technology and vocational assessors awards. I have now been working with Dipt for around six months.
I’ve met some really talented and experienced nail technicians and they have had a great influence on my work.
What is your working ethos?
A good nail technician must understand all aspects the nail; the growth, how it can react, disorders and how to deal with them.
What do you love about Dipt?
I believe Dipt is the next generation of nail technology, working with the best in British chemistry. The system sees minimal filling and no cure.
Dipt has some wonderful colours. Maggie is a lovely shade for brides. Punchy colours include India, a vibrant orange, and London, a vivid pink, which I like to ombré with Dignity.
Why do your clients love the system?
My clientele is very demanding, consisting of mainly business women and ladies in the equestrian world, all needing a fast, strong and long-lasting nail system.
What’s your favourite nail look?
My all time favourite with any system will be a French design. Its needs to have a perfect smile line and can be worn with Levi or Armani, it looks very classy with both.
What do you love about your job?
My ultimate aim is to provide excellent products, along with great education and pursue our chosen career with professionalism and encourage the younger generation of talented nail technicians to work and study hard to achieve fabulous results and to understand how the growth and condition of the nail can influence the final product.
