Is your appointment diary starting to fill up with bridal clients? Mandy Cook, sales director at Gerrard International, offers some advice for a smooth service and top-notch client care for the big day…

“A bridal client is lucrative business for the nail tech as she will need a course of treatments leading up to her big day, not to mention home care advice and an opportunity to purchase retail products to maintain her beautiful nails. A wedding also means the opportunity to approach the entire bridal party with offers of nail treatments and retail products, and appeal to new as well as existing customers both before and after the big day.

“A mobile or home-based tech can also offer a bride nail treatments in the comfort of her own home, with more flexible hours. It’s also a chance for a mobile tech to shine and be more creative offering her bridal client nail art ideas.

“Consider how long it is before the big day, what your customer requires and how many of the bridal party you will be doing and then plan accordingly. Keep a calendar to ensure that all treatments are booked in and planned in advance. Recommend that brides don’t leave things to the last minute. In the run-up to the wedding, encourage your bride to have a trial run and book in regular maintenance. A therapist can prescribe treatment products, give advice on the nail shape best suited to the bride to be, share mood boards and inspiration for nail art and colours with their clients, and leave hands and nails in the perfect condition for at home maintenance.

“Brides should start a natural nail care regime about four to six months before the ‘big day’ to ensure that their nails are in the best health possible. Advise them to come in regularly for a manicure, ideally weekly but at least fortnightly (depending on the condition of their nails). Brides-to-be need to understand that getting their nails into tip top condition is a joint effort and that a good home care regime is also essential.

“The best place to start is with a professional Deluxe Jessica manicure. After a divine conditioning treatment and a perfect paint to protect her nails, your client will be advised to return for weekly manicures, leading up to her wedding day. Help monitor her progress by completing a client advice card.

“At home, advise your client to take a little time each day to get her manicure aisle-ready by protecting her nails with the prescribed Jessica base coat, then add colour and top coat. Hands should be massaged daily with the Jessica Hand & Body Moisturising Emulsion and Jessica Nourish Cuticle Cream.

“Every night, suggest massaging a drop of Phenomen Oil into the cuticles and push them back with a cotton bud. Not only will this keep them soft and tidy, but it also stimulates nail growth and encourages healthy nails.

“To attract grooms, offer courses of couples ‘his n her’ treatments leading up to the big day. The husband and wife-to-be can enjoy side by side manicures and pedicures, and can even use the time away from every day distractions for all important planning.”
