The Gel Bottle Photoshoot

Go behind the scenes for The Gel Bottle Inc’s spring collection advert photoshoot with the TGB team…

The GelBottle Inc Spring collection 2019 is a celebration of iconic women and female empowerment! Each polish is named after an inspirational woman, all iconic in their own way, from Twiggy – known for shaking up the fashion industry and being the first to unapologetically rock a mini skirt, to Valentina, the first woman in space.

Gel meets strength in the TGB Spring collection, not only do we have exceptionally strong and long-wearing products but we recognise that women in the nail tech industry are strong in their own way. it takes inner strength and courage to go out on your own, or set up your own salon.

We hope you can use these tips to create stunning images, helping you to push your business further from the salon to the studio. There are many ways to create beautiful pictures and with Instagram at the top of the marketing pyramid right now, having an impressive supply of images is key for demonstrating your skills, building brand awareness and of course gaining new clients whilst maintaining regulars.

Behind the advert

On the day of the shoot, everyone was buzzing as they arrived, for many people it was the first time they’d been in a studio with an infinity cove and there were a few dizzy heads, as it can make you feel slightly disorientated at first.

TGB founder, Daisy Kalnina, took the photos for the campaign herself. Throughout the day we experimented with different nail colours from our spring collection and used a few different colourama backgrounds to see what worked best. The day went smoothly because we were prepared. All of the nails were pre-painted which really means you can work a lot faster and get the most out of your studio time, giving you the opportunity to work your magic.

Our tips for doing your own photoshoot:

  1. Know what you want to come out with. Improvisation can result in the best images, however, you need some direction and a goal to achieve.
  2. Mood boards are life! Don’t shy away from having too much inspiration, we had mood boards for lighting, backgrounds, colour stories, clothing and poses.
  3. Models – if working with someone you know, ensure they are confident in front of the camera. You’d be amazed how some of the most confident people become shy once under the lights with a camera of them.
  4. Touch up! The smallest thing may not stick out on the day, but one piece of hair out of place could take up hours of post-production work, so pay close attention to the little things and tweak along the way.
  5. A fresh perspective, looking through hundreds of images can tire the eyes, do something else then come back to look at the images and the best ones will pop.
  6. Post-production – don’t overdo it. We are so over the ‘photoshopped’ idea perfection, but there are little things you’ll want to enhance, keep it realistic. If you photoshop cuticles so smooth, they will just become a blur and the authenticity of your hard work might be questioned.
