17-year-old self-employed nail tech, Ruby Galluzzo, opens up about the journey that led her to pursue a nail career at such a young age.
“I first became interested in nails when I was only eight-years-old, but my passion grew massively in 2020 during lockdown. That’s when I really started dreaming of becoming a nail technician.” As soon as Ruby turned 16, she booked a nail course.
“I trained with The Nail Club & Co by Bryony Howell,” she reveals. “I had been following Bryony for three years before booking my course, as she is a source of inspiration for me. So, when I was searching for a nail educator, I knew I wanted her!”
The experience exceeded Ruby’s expectations. She shares: “After finishing the course, I walked out feeling incredibly confident and had such an enjoyable time. I was actually the youngest student she had ever taught!
“I have also trained with Zendaya’s nail technician, Marina Dobyk. Her online training course ‘Gold Manicure Training’ was game-changing for me. It gave me so much extra confidence in my skills and taught me many new ways to achieve the perfect nail finish.”
Though, Ruby had concerns about gaining clients at such a young nail tech, and shares: “I set up my nail desk in a hair salon. I was nervous that clients wouldn’t want their nails done by someone as young as me, let alone return afterwards.” But this led to her proudest achievement so far, as she explains: “I am now fully booked with amazing, supportive clients who I appreciate so much.”
Noting her favourite nail styles to create, Ruby says: “It has to be French tips with a pop of nail art, as this is such a fun way to mix up a classic nail design. One of my favourite nail looks that I have created is a navy blue French tip design with tiny gold stars.”

Ruby used The GelBottle Inc and Taylor Nails products to create the look.
The tech’s go-to brand is The GelBottle Inc, with her favourite product range being Builder In A Bottle™. “BIAB™ is an amazing way to keep nails healthy, strong and aid length,” she says. “This product has given my clients confidence in themselves, and they no longer feel insecure about their nails. I also swear by Lucy Pastorelli’s E-file to perfect my prep work, and its portable dust extractor to stay healthy.”
Ruby believes the best part of her job is meeting new people and making them feel confident. She shares: “I’m beyond grateful for all the new faces I get to meet, stories I get to hear, endless laughs and being able to be there for my clients. Having this as my career is something I will never take for granted!”
The tech has been overwhelmed by support from other professionals in the industry. She says: “Everyone has been so kind, friendly and supportive. If I’ve ever have any questions or concerns, there has always been someone willing to help. It’s such an inspiring and welcoming community.”
The future looks bright for the young tech, as she explains her social media-oriented career goals: “I plan on creating new styles of content for my social media accounts. I’d like to start creating more Instagram reels where I showcase behind-the-scenes of my work days.” Noting her ultimate dream, she reveals: “I’d love to eventually open my own salon and become a nail educator – that would be a dream come true!”
