Back to Work: Clean up
By Scratch Staff | 19 June 2020 | Expert Advice, Feature
Scratch gathers guidelines from across the industry for what should be considered for when you & your clients set foot back into your business…
Following your risk assessment, you need to thoroughly clean and title your premises.
Not only is this good health & safety practice, but will reassure your clients and employees.
Before you do, consider layout in terms of optimising social distancing between clients and staff members.
- Wipe down all surfaces (floors, worktops, trolleys, couches etc) with medical grade disinfectant & cleaner following guidelines and air dry. Redo any surfaces used between clients.
- All touch points such as door plates/handles, light switches etc. should be cleaned with medical grade disinfectant and cleaner frequently during the day.
- Avoid if possible using any materials or furniture in the salon that are hard to clean, such as blankets and carpets.
- Provide a comprehensive cleaning/disinfection timetable & checklist for all communal areas, storage facilities, treatment rooms, workstations, tools, equipment, stock and touch points and make sure it is adhered to and monitored on a regular basis.
The government’s Keeping workers and clients safe during COVID-19 in close contact services guidelines state:
- Using signs and posters to build awareness of good handwashing technique, the need to increase handwashing frequency and avoiding touching your face.
- Adopting good handwashing technique and increasing handwashing in between appointments. For mobile operators, in the absence of handwashing facilities, you must use hand sanitiser.
- Providing clients access to tissues and informing them that if they do need to sneeze or cough, they should do so into the tissue, which should then be discarded appropriately and that they should wash their hands thoroughly or use hand sanitiser after using a tissue.
- Providing regular reminders and signage to maintain hygiene standards.
- Providing hand sanitiser in multiple locations in premises in addition to washrooms.
- Setting clear use and cleaning guidance for toilets to ensure they are kept clean and social distancing is achieved as much as possible.
- Enhancing cleaning for busy areas.
- Providing more waste facilities and more frequent rubbish collection.
- Providing hand drying facilities – either paper towels or electrical dryers.
