Multi award-winning nail technician, Karen Brown, reveals how she has been adapting to the UK lockdown as a result of Covid-19…
Hello to all of my nail kings and queens! I hope you are all doing OK in these confusing times.
Today I am talking about adapting to our surroundings. It’s taken me five weeks to actually get my nail get out of my car because, for the first time ever in my nail career, I have stopped; stopped doing nails, stopped training. So, I decided to take that time to enjoy being at home and being with my family. I often felt guilty being at work when I had a one-year-old at home and now I don’t have that guilt anymore because I am with her all day, every day!
Five weeks on, I finally felt I wanted to do some nails and I had a couple of clients enquire about press-on nails. I had everything that I needed in my car so decided I would set up a nail desk in the house and make someones day by making them a custom set of press-on nails. I have been overwhelmed by the response – people are loving the face they can have a gorgeous set of nails on and instil a little bit of normality in these crazy times.
I have turned my dressing room into my temporary nail room and I have changed from using L&P to using Gelica gel, hard gel, gel polish, acrygel, butter gel, etc. because I don’t want the odour of monomer taking over the house. Taking these steps, I have adapted my life, nails and my profession but I am still creating eye-catching nails for my clients and, as a result, making them smile and feel happy.
It’s pushed me to create techniques in an entirely different way and create an array of looks and designs in a totally different setting. I feel I am still learning and getting to push my limits, and it’s some great practice time ahead of the Scratch Stars Awards 2020 judging days in August!
Everyone is so excited to receive their own little nail kits and I can’t wait to see everyone wearing their KMB Custom Nails.
We can’t be broken by these unknown times, we need to try and stay positive and, where we can find a little normality, let’s grab it with both hands – with our nails on!
