5 top tips for perfect nail competition preparation

Lauren Holmes, winner of the Scratch Stars Gel Polish Stylist of the Year award 2019, reveals her 5 top tips for nailing your competition prep:

1. Practice, practice, practice! Make sure you have done your competition set plenty of times, so you know your timings and order. Plan it out and write it down in steps. It will be easier to remember.
2. Relax; everyone competing is in the same position as you. The more relaxed you are, the better you will perform.
3. Try and ignore all the hustle and bustle going on around you. Focus solely on what you’re doing and your model’s comfort. You will only stress yourself out trying to check out the competition.
4. When packing your kit for competing make sure to remember everything you would need for normal salon life. E.g. client record cards, hygiene and sterilisation products, something small to use as a bin. The judges will not only be judging your work, but your professional standards too.
5. Keep your work area tidy as you go.
