Tell us about your training…
I trained & qualified as a beauty therapist and make up artist IHBC at Thanet Technical college in 1990. I worked in a salon for five years until I returned to college to study marketing and business and became an event manager for IT companies. I continued with beauty offering treatments to friends and family. My love was always with beauty and so I opened my business KG Beauty in 2014. To complete my business, I did an intensive hair up course in order to be a one-stop shop to clients for parties, weddings and proms.
What is your all-time favourite nail product?
My all-time favourite nail product has to be glitter. Something so simple can make the shortest of nails look exquisite.
Who do you admire in the industry?
There are many nail technicians that I admire, however the three main people that I aspire to be as good as are Pamela Curtain, of Pam pjsamperparties, who has supported, guided, constructively criticised and encouraged me from the moment I opened my business. Helena Jeffrey, of The Beauty Hut Bournemouth, and Carrie Murphy, The Nail Room, als have offered advice, support and encouragement night and day. All their work is amazing and it pushes me to be better.
What designs do you love to create?
I love being challenged with nail designs and putting my own twist on ideas. Anything that pushes me out of my comfort zone and improves my free-hand nail art.
What is the most exciting thing about the UK nail industry?
The most exciting thing about the nail industry – apart from the colours, glitters, pigments and nail art – has to be all the lovely people. Unconditional inspiration and encouragement.
If you weren’t doing nails, what would you be doing?
I can’t imagine doing anything else! Compared to what I do now, everything else seems mediocre, boring and unfulfilling.
