Opi Grease Event Lead

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of iconic movie musical, Grease, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, OPI has revealed a limited-edition collection seeing 12 shades inspired by the film’s bright, fun colours.

To celebrate the launch, press were invited to an exclusive event to get a sneak peek at the new shades. I hand jived over to The Parlour at Fortnum & Masons. Just a stone’s throw from Piccadilly Circus, the iconic department store’s kitsch ice cream parlour served up a dreamy pastel backdrop perfect for the collection, complete with a retro booth seating, diner bar and stools.

Taking centre stage in the parlour were three podiums set up to display the new shades in scene each inspired by locations from the film. The Burger Diner saw some of the shades next colour coordinated milkshakes, seeing minty green, Was It All Just A Dream?, pastel yellow, Meet A Boy Cute As Can Be, peachy pink, Hopelessly Devoted To OPI, and creamy white, Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milkshakes.

The iconic drive-in theatre scene was given a nod to with three miniature dreamboat cars parked up in front of a screen looping scenes from the film. Sat in the cars were another four shades from the collection; shimmering lavender tone, Frenchie Likes To Kiss?, creme rose, Pink Ladies Rule The School, Teal Me More, Teal Me More and glitzy navy grey, Danny & Sandy 4 Ever!.

The film’s final scene was played out by the collections punchy tones, carefully posed on a ferries wheel. Shade names include fun fuchsia, You’re The Shade That I Want, orange creme, Summer Lovin’ Having A Blast!, frosty navy, Chills Are Multiplying!, and ruby red tone, Tell Me About It Stud.

After seeing the shades, guests were invited to try them. Manicure desks lined one wall of the parlour, with technicians from Secret Spa attired in the iconic Pink Ladies’ jacket of pastel pink satin. Fully stocked with all the new shades, it was hard to choose one.  While I debated the lighter, pastel tones of the collection, I’m hopelessly devoted to classic red hues so opted for the hero shade, Tell Me About It Stud. Manicurist, Lisa Marie Farag, was on hand to polish me in the vivid scarlet polish.

With such a fun collection for the upcoming season, we can’t wait for those Summer Nights! After all, Grease is the word!

The limited edition shades will be available in lacquer, Infinite Shine and GelColor formulas from May via www.opiuk.com
